Theodor von Wolkenstein-Rodenegg

Count Theodor von Wolkenstein-Rodenegg († October 29, 1795 near Mainz ) was an Imperial Major General and Colonel of Tyrol .

Life

He served in the imperial army and was appointed major general in 1790. In the First Coalition War he was in the army of Feldzeugmeister Count Clerfayt . He had been appointed commander of both Rhine armies (the Upper and Lower Rhine). On October 22nd, 1795 the French General Pichegru was defeated near Mannheim by General Wurmser and had to evacuate the city, which surrendered to the Austrians. On the night of October 28, part of the Austrian army crossed the Rhine bridge. The aim was to break the French siege of Mainz . The general fell while storming the entrenchments of the French siege army. He was buried in the Peterskirche in Mainz .

His parents were Count Michael Fortunat von Wolkenstein-Rodenegg († 1757) and his wife Josepha Maria von Sarnthein . Wolkenstein married Maria Anna von Clary and Aldringen on September 14, 1768 (* August 12, 1746; around 1802). The couple had the following children:

  • Wenzel († December 12, 1807 or December 31, 1803) ∞ Maria Theresia von Thurnau
  • Joseph Carl Theodor Ignaz (* November 18, 1765; † August 15, 1844) ∞ Maria Anna von Thurn-Valsassina (* February 11, 1775; † 1843)
