Theophil L'Orsa

Theophil L'Orsa (born November 15, 1807 in Bern ; † February 6, 1853 in Rheinfelden AG ) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Life

L'Orsa was the son of the pastor Jeremias L'Orsa and his wife, the doctor's daughter Anna, née Kühn. L'Orsa attended commercial and technical schools. In 1831 he married the bourgeois daughter Theresia Maria, née Baumer, and bought into civil rights. In 1843, L'Orsa founded the saltworks company L'Orsa & Cie. Together with Theodor Hoffmann-Merian (1819–1888), Johann Gottfried Francke and Carl Güntert . in Rheinfelden, which founded the Rheinfelden salt works in 1844.

For health reasons, L'Orsa had to withdraw from the business in 1852. After his death, his wife († 1885) took over the salt works. Later, L'Orsa & Cie. the United Swiss Rhine Saltworks .
