Theriogenology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Theriogenologie (from ancient Greek θηρίον Therion "(wild) animal" γένος genos "family, tribe, lineage" and -logie ) as a branch of veterinary medicine concerned with the physiology and pathology of male and female reproduction of the animals. It includes gynecology including obstetrics and andrology . According to the American Society of Theriogenology, the history of the term "theriogenology" was suggested by Professor Herbert M. Howe, author of the textbook Medical Greek and Latin . He pointed out that the terms “gynecology” and “andrology” were incorrect for use in veterinary medicine, as these Greek words for γυνή gynē “woman” (and not “female”) and ἀνήρ anēr “man "(Not for" male ") and are therefore applicable to human medicine, but not to veterinary medicine.
