The Thielert Centurion 4.0 is an aircraft engine from the German manufacturer Thielert . It is a liquid-cooled four-valve V8 Common Rail - Diesel engine power class to 220 kW (300 hp). In contrast to the smaller 1.7 engine , however, it is only certified for kerosene operation.
history
The engine, which is equipped with a reduction gear (1.69: 1) and two turbochargers with charge air cooling , is the second new development of a piston aircraft engine for civil aviation since Porsche became involved .
The engine has FADEC . The Centurion 4.0 was first used in the HPA TT62 . It is approved according to JAR-E . In the meantime, it is also being used on a trial basis in a twin-engine Beech B60 "Duke" .
An overhaul is not planned. The engine has a permissible operating time of 2400 hours and must then be replaced. The purchase price is € 58,000 (2/2006). The engine is a Mercedes-Benz OM 629 motor vehicle engine adapted for aviation , which was used in the S-Class models S 420 and 450 CDI until 2010 . Since Mercedes-Benz is gradually replacing the eight-cylinder diesel engines with much more economical and multi-stage turbocharged six-cylinder engines from 2011, the future of the Centurion 4.0 in its current form is uncertain.
