Third Fleet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Third Fleet ( German  Third Fleet ) was a fleet of eleven ships that transported 2000 convicts, supplies and passengers from Great Britain to the Australian penal colony in Sydney from June to October 1791 .

Convict death rate

There are different statements about the death rate. A 1791 newspaper reports that 194 male and four female convicts died during the trip. Although the number of deceased convicts was very high, it was fewer on this transport than on the Second Fleet . However, 600 of the newly arrived convicts had to receive medical attention and were unable to work. Of them, a total of 436 died by 1792.
