The film opens with a blonde sleeping with her boyfriend and then going for a night swim where she is devoured by a shark. Chief Brody finds the woman's necklace next to a shark's tooth. He tries to close the beach, but the very attractive mayor Vaughn refuses. Marine expert Dr. Hooper does her best to help Chief Brody stop the shark. She finds out the shark is white and 25 feet long. She persuades the mayor to hire the professional shark hunter Quint. The mayor gives in and then the two of them have a sex scene together. Quint shows up and agrees to help for $ 5,000. He advises Brody to go home and sleep with his wife as it could be his last time. Brody listens and says goodbye to his wife, Ellen, before heading to see Hooper and Quint.
