The Thomas Group ( spelling : thomas group ) is a medium-sized group of companies in the construction and building materials industry. With more than 60 locations in Germany and Poland, the Thomas Group is active in the business fields of concrete components, natural stone asphalt, ready-mixed concrete, road construction and cement.
history
20th century
On September 23, 1930 Emil Thomas founded the Emil Thomas civil engineering company in Würrich . With his first road construction team, Emil Thomas restored parts of the destroyed Hunsrück roads. The company suffered great losses during the Second World War . In the early 1950s the company moved to Kirchberg / Hunsrück . Large orders ensured that the machine park was constantly expanded through investments. Due to the technical progress in the 1960s, the number of employees had to be reduced. In 1965 thomas KG road and civil engineering company was founded in Bingen. In 1978 Eckhardt Thomas took over the company. He changed the work area to larger road construction projects, enlarged the target region and accelerated the implementation of the projects through greater mechanization and modernization. In the mid-1980s, Eckhard Thomas entered the building materials business, acquired the Argenthal quarry and several concrete plants. In 1989, Eckhardt Thomas took over Thomas Bau Weimar, like dornburger zement, a medium-sized cement works in Thuringia. There was also the ready-mixed concrete business in the new federal states.
21st century
In 2006, the Thomas Group was expanded to include the concrete components business with the takeover of the Hofmann concrete components plant in Günthersleben. Since then, the business area has been growing steadily through the takeover of concrete plants. These include the following companies: Heinrich Schnabel GmbH & Co. Fertigdecke KG, Betoform GmbH & Co. KG, Bussemas Betonbauteile GmbH & Co. KG, Betonwerk Fehrbellin GmbH & Co. KG, Rostocker Elementzüge GmbH, HV Betonwerk Anhalt GmbH, HV Fertigteile GmbH, Betonwerk Moorkaten GmbH & Co. KG, Betonwerk Melsdorf GmbH & Co. KG and Schnabel Betonbauteile GmbH & Co. KG. In the meantime, the concrete components business area with 18 production sites and 3 sales and planning offices covers the area north of the Main line almost everywhere.
In addition, the ready-mixed concrete business area was expanded with the addition of numerous new plants and medium-sized partnerships. In 2011 mth-beton GmbH & Co. KG was formed through the merger of the medium-sized companies Mühlherr Kies & Beton and thomas. This means that 7 ready-mixed concrete locations are operated in the Upper Franconian region.

- Concrete components: 22 production sites and 3 sales and planning offices in Germany
- Products and services: Element ceilings, element walls, solid walls, solid ceilings (normal and dense lightweight concrete), stairs (straight, spiral), balconies, columns and prestressed concrete girders up to 80 tons
- Cement: Cement works in Dorndorf-Steudnitz near Jena and Erwitte; 4 concrete testing stations are also operated within the company's own competence center
- Products and services: cements, special binders and special building materials for every type of construction project
- Natural stone asphalt services: in the regions of Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia and in the greater Nuremberg area, 2 quarries and 6 modern asphalt mixing plants
- Products and services: own natural stone extraction, production of high-quality building materials, other special products, asphalt, own vehicle fleet for logistics services
Sponsorship award
Since 1999, Dornburger Zement GmbH & Co. KG has been awarding an annual sponsorship prize to students at the Bauhaus University Weimar. The company awards this award to successful theses with a practice-related research topic, the results of which can be directly applied in the building materials industry.

In 2016, thomas GmbH Simmern was recognized by the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce for a very successful training course.
