Thomas Azier (born August 14, 1987 in Leiderdorp , Netherlands ) is a Dutch singer, songwriter and music producer. He has already worked with great musicians like Stromae and Casper . He achieved fame with the title Red Eyes , which was used in 2012 for a perfume commercial for the Yves Saint Laurent brand and made it into the French charts.

Life

Azier studied at the Academie voor Popcultuur in Leeuwarden in 2005 before moving to Berlin at the age of 19 . He processed the sadness and harshness of life in the big city he experienced there in his first album Hylas . It is shaped by the industrial sound of the factory in which Azier worked on his debut for five years, and the establishment of which he made use of for numerous sound experiments audible in his songs.

For his second album Rouge , Thomas Azier took a different path. He left Berlin after almost ten years, moved to Montmartre , and was inspired by the new surroundings to create softer, more instrumental sounds. Like a red thread, an allusion to the title Rouge , the piano as the most important instrument runs through Azier's second album, released in May 2017.

Then he went on a journey, processed what he had experienced on his next EP Stray, which was released a little later, in autumn 2018 and expanded by nine tracks, as an album of the same name. As before, Azier worked again with his brother on this project.

During the spring of 2020, Azier released the singles Love, Disorderly , Entertainment and Hold On Tight one after the other . The accompanying music videos are rather short films, underlaid with Azier's music. The accompanying album Love, Disorderly was released on June 12, 2020. The artist described the intention behind the album as depicting the current state of the world without evaluation or narrative interventions.
