Thomas Ballast

Thomas Ballast (born December 1962 in Bad Münder ) is a German health insurance manager.

Thomas Ballast studied from 1984 to 1989 economics with a focus on finance and tax systems at the University of Cologne . After completing his studies, which he successfully completed with a degree in economics , he began to work as a junior consultant in the field of dental care. In 1992 Ballast switched to the Federal Association of Guild Health Insurance Funds (IKK Federal Association), based in Bergisch Gladbach, as a consultant for "medical care" .

In 1995, Ballast accepted a position as head of the “Doctors” department at the VdAK and was primarily responsible for supporting regional contract negotiations for the substitute funds in the association. A particular concern for him was the introduction and implementation of managed care approaches in the German healthcare system. In particular, Ballast was responsible for the implementation of structural and model contracts.

Since January 1st, 2008 Ballast has been chairman of the board of the Verband der Ersatzkassen e. V. (vdek) based in Berlin (formerly the Association of Employee Health Insurance Funds (VdAK) and Workers' Replacement Funds Association (AEV) based in Siegburg ). On July 1, 2012, he moved to Techniker Krankenkasse as deputy chairman of the board .
