Thomas Bourgin

Thomas Bourgin (born December 23, 1986 in Saint-Étienne , † January 10, 2013 in Calama , Chile ) was a French motorcycle racer .

Life

Bourgin came from the French Saint-Étienne ( Loire department ). In 2009 he found his way into professional international rallying .

This year he contested the Rally Morocco , where he finished 16th overall; in the class up to 450 cubic centimeters he came second here. In 2011, he finished seventh overall for motorcycles at the Tunisia Rally. At the Rally Sardinia in the same year Bourgin finished 25th and at the Rally Morocco 15th. In 2012 he contested the X rally in Morocco, where he finished 2nd. In 2013, when he was only 25, he took part in the Dakar Rally for the first time as a motorcyclist with the number 125.

On January 10, 2013, Bourgin, who had been 68th overall, was in Calama on the way to the start of the seventh stage near the Argentine border. At around 8:23 a.m. local time, he collided with an oncoming police vehicle and died at the scene of the accident. Bourgin was the third fatality in the 2013 Dakar Rally.
