Thomas Brunner (researcher)
Thomas Brunner (baptized August 22, 1821 in Oxford , England ; † April 22, 1874 in Nelson , New Zealand ) was an England-born surveyor and explorer , whose ancestors emigrated from Switzerland to England during the French Revolution , especially the West Coast region on New Zealand's South Island. According to him, which is Lake Brunner named.
He and Charles Heaphy were the first Europeans to explore the area of the Tahu- Māori and recognized that Aoraki / Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand.
