Thomas Dick

Thomas Dick (* 1877 in Port Macquarie ; † 1927 ) was an Australian photographer .

life and work

Dick's grandfather and father were tanners before Thomas' father started making a living from oysters . The zoologist Theo Roughley helped Thomas Dick at the start in photography. Dick, with Roughley's help, bought his first camera and set up a darkroom.

Thomas Dick mainly photographed the life of the Australian Birpai people . Photographs from Birrpai - Beyond the Lens of Thomas Dick (1974), an installation with 15 black and white photographs by Thomas Dick (1910), was shown at documenta 14 in 2017 .
