Carlos Bonell (born July 23, 1949 in London ) is a British guitarist and arranger.

The son of Spanish parents had his first guitar lessons from his father. He later studied with John Williams and Stephen Dodgson at the Royal College of Music , where he became a professor at the age of 22. At that time he was the youngest professor ever.

In 1973 he received the Greater London Arts Association Young Musicians' Scheme Award and subsequently gave more than fifty concerts in England. In 1975 he performed Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez in the Royal Festival Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos . In 1975 he recorded his first solo LP Guitar Music of Spain . An album made the following year with his teacher John Williams was nominated for a Grammy . In addition to his longstanding musical partner Williams, Bonell also worked with guitarists Paco Peña and Martin Taylor , violinists Pinchas Zukerman and Salvatore Accardo, and singers Patricia Rozario , Teresa Berganza and Philip Langridge .

After his concert debut in New York in 1978, he performed at festivals in London, Aldeburgh, Helsinki, Israel, Tanglewood, Sydney, Istanbul and Hong Kong. In 1981 he played the first digital recording of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez on the Decca Records label in Canada with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit . He also recorded the complete work for guitar by Benjamin Britten and William Walton .

In 1981 he gave a benefit concert for the War Child organization with John Williams at Wigmore Hall . Between 1987 and 1995 he made seven more albums, and at concerts he premiered works by Humphrey Searle , Stephen Oliver , Howard Skempton , Richard Charltons , Ottavio Négros , Barrington Pheloungs and others.

In 2006 he organized the first London International Guitar Festival . In the following year he supported Paul McCartney in composing his concerto for guitar and orchestra. On the album Queen Guitar Rhapsodies in 2008 he played arranged tracks for guitar and orchestra by the group Queen . In 2012 the album Magical Mystery Guitar Tour was created with his own arrangements of music by the Beatles for guitar solo.
