Thomas Elbern

Thomas Elbern (born February 4, 1960 ) is a German musician, producer, journalist and radio presenter.

Career as a musician

After his first musical steps with the solo project TE Musik , Thomas Elbern acted from 1982 to 1984 as the front man of the new wave formation Strange States . In 1985 he was a founding member and guitarist of the dark wave group Pink Turns Blue , which he left in early 1987. In 1989 Thomas Elbern founded the band Escape With Romeo in Cologne, with whom he has released a total of eleven studio albums. In the meantime he ran various side projects. In 1995 the album Kalt und Elektrisch was released under his own name. From 1999 to 2001 he was active with the synth pop duo Close Encounters . In 2001 Thomas Elbern founded the Zeitklang Records label , through which the releases of Escape With Romeo and in 2010 an album of his ambient project Twilight Worldz were published. In 2017 he announced the departure from Escape With Romeo. After one last tour in 2018 and two festival appearances in summer 2019, the band is to be dissolved. He is currently musically active with the new projects Glitter And Darkness and Dirty Vocoder .

Career as a radio presenter

The main reason for separating from Pink Turns Blue was Thomas Elbern's duties as radio presenter for the Graffiti program , which he directed from 1986 to 1995 on WDR 1 . This gained supraregional importance as it offered a platform to young and rather unknown bands in particular. With the change of the program scheme of WDR 1 Graffiti was discontinued. Thomas Elbern then took over the moderation of the Heimatkult on the successor channel 1 Live for a while . He then switched to Deutschlandfunk , where he continues to design various programs ( night radio , game room, etc.) as a promoter and mediator of current independent music .
