Thomas Geelhaar

Thomas Geelhaar (* 1957 in Mainz ) is a German chemist and manager. From January 2014 to the end of 2015 he was President of the Society of German Chemists , previously he was Treasurer of the GDCh.

Life

Geelhaar studied chemistry at the University of Mainz from 1975 to 1981 and received his doctorate in physical chemistry in 1983 . In 1984 he joined Merck (Darmstadt) as laboratory manager for liquid crystal research . He then held various positions in the Liquid Crystals division at Merck, such as "Research Director, Sales Manager and Division Manager in Japan". He also headed Merck OLED Materials GmbH.

Geelhaar is Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Chemicals at Merck.

In 2007 and again in 2011 he was elected to the board of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker, each for terms of office from 2008 to 2011 and from 2012 to 2015, since 2010 he has been treasurer of the GDCh.

Geelhaar is married.
