Thomas Gerwers

Thomas Gerwers (born May 11, 1965 in Neukirchen-Vluyn ) is a German photojournalist and publicist. He also works as a moderator, speaker and jury member in the field of photography.

Life

Gerwers began working as a journalist in 1987 with a journalistic traineeship. He then worked as an editor until he moved to GFW Verlag in Düsseldorf in 1990. There he first worked for a few months for the industry magazine INPHO Imaging & Business before he was appointed editor-in-chief of ProfiFoto in October 1990 . In 1996 he was one of the initiators of the digital photography working group , adf eV, of which he was a member of the board until 2014. In 1997 Thomas Gerwers founded the Bureau GRG for editing, organization and communication. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Technical Image Press Association since 1998 and was elected chairman in 2008. Since 2002 Gerwers has also been managing partner of GFW PhotoPublishing GmbH in Düsseldorf. He is a qualified member of the German Society for Photography (DGPh) and was also a juror in the photo competitions Hasselblad Masters, Felix Schoeller Photo Prize, Geschossen + Printed, Gregor Calendar Prize, photokina meets Academy.

Services

Thomas Gerwers is committed to promoting young talent in the field of photography. Due to his commitment, the Canon ProfiFoto Award was created in 2006 and takes place twice a year.
