Thomas Gil

Thomas Gil (born October 21, 1954 in Madrid ) is a Spanish-born German philosopher .

Thomas Gil studied philosophy and social sciences (sociology and economics) in Bonn and Münster . After doctorate (1981) and habilitation ( criticism of the classical philosophy of history. 1992) teaching activities followed in Stuttgart (university lecturer), St. Gallen (professorial position), Brussels (Chaire Chaim Perelman ), London and at the University at Albany, The State University of New York . Since 1998 he has been teaching philosophy at the Technical University of Berlin .

In his habilitation thesis he dealt with forms of criticism of the classical philosophy of history, which were developed with the intention of establishing a particular social science (historical science or sociology).

In his thinking, Gil always tries to reconstruct the conditions of origin and validity of thoughts and arguments. Gil brings together philosophical and systematic perspectives and interests in various works on ethical justifications and arguments, the evaluation of technology projects, strategies for the justification of state actions , traditional models of action and rationality , practical paradoxes and the concepts of person, aesthetic experience and knowledge to do justice to both the internal structure and the external functional conditions of argumentative thinking.
