He then worked as a carton draftsman at the royal glass painting establishment in Munich, where he applied for a permanent position in 1847. He was hired on a trial basis, but was not taken on in 1851. He then worked with panel and wall paintings, mainly for churches, especially in Upper Bavaria and Swabia .

From 1859 to 1861 he made drawings for the calendar for Catholic Christians. In 1860 he was one of the founding members of the Munich Association for Christian Art . For the old Bavarian National Museum, which is now the Museum of Ethnology, he painted the fresco in 1864 that Ludwig the Rich donated to Ingolstadt University in 1472 . However, this was later plastered over and could still be preserved under the plaster. From 1868 to 1870 he made a way of the cross with life-size figures for Chicago. He also designed church robes.
