FIGHT
FIGHT is a mixtape series by the American alternative hip-hop band Flipsyde . It started on December 20, 2011 and contains a total of four mixtapes, all of which are produced by former member DJ D-Sharp, five were originally planned. They are available as a free download.
The Mixtape series is supposed to reflect its evolution over the last few years: "We want our fans to know where we've been and what we've been through. It's been a fight." (German: "We want our fans to know where we were and what we went through: it was a fight"), says rapper Piper. The title is made up of the first letters of the individual mixtapes. A mixtape was originally supposed to appear per month by April: Focus , Ignite , then Gift , Higher - which was canceled - and Transform . However, the last mixtape was released in June. In terms of time, the songs can mainly be classified between We the People and State of Survival , but newer songs have also been used and edited. The covers of all mixtapes represent a modified Yin and Yang with the letters F and S - the letters represent the name Flipsyde - and the respective mixtapes are assigned a color. The first mixtape is red, the second orange, the following green, the fourth blue and the last gray.

Intro
The intro on Focus is an excerpt from an interview in which they introduce DJ D-Sharp. The interview was carried out by the radio station DASDINGTV during their tour in Germany in 2009 .
Pocket full of money
With the song on which Akon can also be heard, they moved more towards reggae and R&B.
Roll On & Ride
The title was the first song they wrote with Akon in 2008 as part of State of Survival. The song was recorded in 2008 with Chantelle Paige. The version has been reworked and Paige can no longer be found on it.
March of Death
In March of Death they criticize label politics and explain how important it is to make your own music that you are proud of. "March of Death was us saying fuck you to the label," reports Steve Knight. The song was produced by DJ Quik .
Patricia
For the song they used the guitar part from Freedom, a track from The Phoenix that was recorded in Brazil and has strong Latin influences. Patricia tells of the difficult life of a prostitute in Brazil.
Toss It Up
The title was already on her second studio album State of Survival , but there still with Chantelle Paige. The original version with Akon is on Focus .

The recordings of Ignite took place except for My People according to the band in the studio of Timbaland and together with Akon during his tour with Gwen Stefani. It first appeared on the DJ Booth website , a popular platform for free mixtapes, and only later on their own homepage.
Dear lord
Nicole Scherzinger , who was the front woman of the Pussycat Dolls at the time of the recording, has a guest appearance on the song . The song was produced by Amp Live .
Welcome to Hollywood
On Ignite the original version of the title, who also is on State of Survival was to be found. Instead of Paige's second verse, the original third verse by Piper can be heard here and the bridge that comes on State of Survival after the second chorus is also postponed.
champion
The song was the 2008 promo single for the State of Survival album and the theme song for the Beijing Summer Olympics. The song was written with Akon . The third verse sung by Paige is replaced by a new one by Piper.
My People
My People is the first track from The Phoenix EP . It was remixed here by D-Sharp and is a minute shorter than the original version because the last refrain has been left out.
It's goin 'down
One day before the entire mixtape was released, they presented the song It's Goin 'Down from it, which is based on the title of the same name by Yung Joc. They produced the song with Cardinal Offishall. It's Goin 'Down is about a man who can break free from heroin addiction.

In the middle of February they finished the third Mixtape Gift. The green mixtape contains five songs - four of which were previously unreleased - the names of which they announced the day before they were released. They finally released the mixtape on February 28th. Steve Knight plays a rather small role on it, Piper and D-Sharp mostly take on the vocals or rap parts. So Gift is based more on hip-hop than on rock. It is dedicated to Piper's dead brother.
African song
Piper and D-Sharp rap here alone, Steve Knight doesn't sing for once.
Soldier
Soldier is a song about two soldiers killed and friends of Piper's brother.
Iraq
The song was already on The Pen and the Sword as Letter from Iraq . In Iraq , a correspondence between Piper and his brother Elijah Warren, a former sergeant in the US Army, about the Iraq war is depicted. Warren reads his own mail and Piper raps his answers. The whole thing is accompanied by traditional chants. Warren committed suicide in 2008.
Act like
The lyrics to the single Act Like a Cop Did It were written by rapper Piper, who is a police officer himself. He refers to becoming aware of the violence and brutality in society: "It's time to take matters into your own hands and shape your own present and future," reported guitarist Lopez. The Phoenix single, slightly changed to Gift, is unusually heavily influenced by Metal with heavy guitar riffs.
Oh god
The song was created shortly after their debut album We the People . At that time they even made a music video about it.

The last mixtape came out a few months late as the band was busy producing their new EP. So they also combined Higher and Transform into the latter, but with 15 titles. Many songs were written for We the People and were already on the bonus track version of the album. Other songs were recorded while working with Akon.
