Thomas Hamacher

Thomas Hamacher (born April 12, 1964 in Eschweiler ) is a German physicist and professor for energy systems research at the Technical University of Munich .

biography

Thomas Hamacher studied physics at the University of Bonn, RWTH Aachen University and Columbia University, New York. In 1994 he was awarded a PhD with the subject " Baryonic B-decays " at the University of Hamburg. rer. nat. PhD. From 1996 to 2010 he headed the Energy and System Studies group at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching near Munich. Since 2010 he has been a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Technical University of Munich and has held the chair for renewable and sustainable energy systems since 2013.

Thomas Hamacher regularly appears in public as an expert on the topics of energy transition, nuclear and fusion energy. His main research field is the design of energy systems in the context of disruptive technologies such as nuclear fusion , regenerative energies, smart cities or electromobility.
