The Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site is located in Kansas City , Missouri .
The 1,300 m² state park consists of the building in which the painter Thomas Hart Benton lived, worked and taught from 1939 until his death on January 19, 1975. The State Historic Site was established in 1977 and the building was entered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Half of the two-story Victorian house was remodeled by the artist according to his needs in the early 1940s. A cultural and creative meeting place for artists, architects, poets and politicians developed there during Benton's lifetime.
The studio was left in its original condition with all sorts of utensils, coffee pots full of brushes and a stretched canvas. Finished works by the painter can be viewed in several places in the house.
