Thomas S. Hoffmeister (born September 5, 1958 ) is a German biologist and professor of evolutionary biology at the University of Bremen . Hoffmeister was one of the translators of the standard scientific textbook Ecology: From Individuals to Ecosystems ( Begon , Harper , Townsend ).

Life

Hoffmeister studied the evolutionary aspects of insect communication, behavioral and decision-making biology of insects and the relationship between insects and the parasites associated with them. Hoffmeister was a working group leader at the University of Kiel and is now at the University of Bremen.

research

He and his group work with evolutionary approaches to ecological issues. At the center of his work are questions about factors that control the behavior of individuals as well as interactions between organisms at different trophic levels. As a consequence, this also has an impact on the biodiversity in insect communities. For this purpose, his working group analyze the information intake, processing and the decisions made by animals. The working group works with herbivorous or detritivorous insects and their parasites as investigation systems.

Hoffmeister also deals with applied issues relating to biological pest control.

Teaching

Hoffmeister teaches biostatistics ( R ) and evolutionary biology at the University of Bremen's biology courses .
