Thomas Ihle

Thomas Ihle (born February 28, 1974 in Halle ) is a German entomologist and zoologist . He has been working as a freelance insect researcher in Southeast Asia since 1999 .

life and work

Ihle has lived in Thailand since 1999. As a freelance researcher at various natural science museums such as the Natural History Museum in Erfurt , the Museum Koenig in Bonn, the Museum Witt in Munich and the Entomological Museum Ulf Eitschberger , he works there on research into the insect fauna of Southeast Asia with a focus on butterflies .

Thomas Ihle is mainly devoted to field research and his excursions lead to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and Nepal.

Several new species were discovered by Thomas Ihle, some are still undescribed and four species, Ihlegramma Ihlei (Eitschberger 2003) Sphingidae, Aholcocerus ihleorum (Yakovlev & Witt 2009) Cossidae, Aloa ihlei (Cerny 2009) Arctiidae, Ovipennis thomasi (Cerny 2009) Arctiidae were named after him.
