Thomas King

Thomas Königs (born December 8, 1956 in Nuremberg ; † May 2, 2019 ) was a German classical guitarist and professor of guitar.

biography

Thomas Königs studied 'classical guitar' at the Meistersinger Conservatory in his home town of Nuremberg from 1974 to 1978. This was followed by postgraduate studies at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Heinz Teuchert.

At age 23, Thomas King received a teaching position at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory of the city of Augsburg . From 1999 to 2007 he taught at the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music , in Augsburg. In October 2007 he moved to the Nuremberg University of Music to teach a guitar class.

In addition to his guitar and lute recitals, Thomas Königs can often be heard in various chamber music ensembles. Particularly noteworthy here are the collaboration with the singers Janet Chvatal and Suzanzeichner as well as the longstanding artistic partnership with the American guitarist Bruce Banister.

On April 24, 2019, he succumbed to ALS ( amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ), leaving behind a wife and daughter. Since the ALS diagnosis, they have been actively involved in research into the disease and founded the non-profit association niemALS give up eV
