Thomas Kakuska

Thomas Kakuska (born August 25, 1940 in Vienna ; † July 4, 2005 there ) was an Austrian violist .

Kakuska studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Franz Samohyl . In 1960 he passed the concert exam. Afterwards he was a member of the Vienna Soloists and the Vienna String Trio and first violinist of the European String Quartet. At the age of 27, in 1967, he became first concertmaster of the Wiener Tonkünstler-Orchester in Vienna. From 1981 he was the successor of Hatto Beyerle until his death as the violist of the Alban Berg Quartet .

Kakuska has taught as a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna since 1971 and as a visiting professor at the Cologne University of Music from 1993 .
