Thomas Kaske also Tönnies Kaske ( bl. 1525-1535) was councilor of the Hanseatic city of Rostock and fleet leader of the Wendish cities of the Hanseatic League .

Life

Thomas Kaske became councilor of the Hanseatic city of Rostock in 1525.

In 1532 he was in command of Rostock ships and other ships from the Wendish cities of the Hanseatic League, which sailed to Norway to assist King Frederick I of Denmark in the arrest of King Christian II of Denmark, who had returned to Norway from exile . With regard to the implementation of the action, the Hanseatic councilors involved, including the Lübeck fleet leaders Gerhard Odingborg and Nikolaus Bardewik , had differences with the Danish commanders Knut and Magnus Gyldenstjern , the commanders of the embattled Akershus fortress . However, King Christian II could be brought into captivity from Oslo to Copenhagen through this intervention .

When in 1535 the Lübeck mayor Jürgen Wullenweber, through the then Rostock Syndicus Johann Oldendorp, raised the Rostock citizenship against the Rostock council, so that they elected a citizens' committee of the 60s, Kaske belonged to the conservative council group under the Rostock mayor Berent Muermann as an opponent of this citizenship committee. Thomas Kaske and Muermann were therefore placed under house arrest in Rostock. After that his track is lost.
