Thomas Nosch

Thomas Nosch (born October 8, 1952 in Freiburg ) is a German entrepreneur and managing director of Optik Nosch GmbH & Co. KG.

Life

After graduating from high school, Thomas Nosch did an apprenticeship as an optician and then attended the specialist academy for optics in Munich, where he passed his master's examination. He then completed a degree in optometry in the USA at the College of Optometry in Houston, Texaswhere he obtained a Doctor of Optometry degree. After his return from the USA in 1980 he joined the family business and took over the management of the company from his father Rudolf Nosch. The optics company Nosch expanded under Thomas Nosch. In addition to the headquarters in Freiburg, the company has nine other stores and a contact lens institute in southern Baden. Optik Nosch achieves annual sales of EUR 5.6 million with 82 employees. Since 2008, the fifth generation has moved into the company management with daughter Susan Nosch, master optician, and in 2016 with daughter Dr. Verena Nosch, lawyer.

Nosch is a great-grandson of the company's founder Isidor Nosch and is the fourth generation to run the family company of the same name, which has existed since 1861.

Professional commitment

Thomas Nosch has always been very enthusiastic about his profession. From 1987 to 1993 Nosch was chairman of the "Scientific Association for Ophthalmic Optics and Optometry" (WVAO), from 1990 he was a founding member of the working group "European Diploma in Optometry" for eight years and from 1994 to 1998 Chairman of the Education Committee of the "European Council" of Optometry and Optics "(ECOO).

From 2003 to 2007 Thomas Nosch was treasurer in ECOO and until 2009 he was president of the German "Zentralverband der Augenoptiker" (ZVA) for ten years. In this role, he made a significant contribution to the amendment of the training regulations and the master craftsman's regulations for the optician trade. Thomas Nosch was particularly committed to the fact that in 2008 an extra occupational college course for opticians was introduced for the first time. With the help of Thomas Nosch, the optometrist qualification was also introduced in Germany for the first time. Optometrists build a bridge between optometry and ophthalmology and can therefore act as the first point of contact for vision problems. In addition to Thomas Nosch, six other optometrists are employed in the family business Nosch.

Thomas Nosch is honorary chairman of the WVAO and the ZVA.
