Angel Metodiew (common transcription: Angel Metodiev , Bulgarian Ангел Методиев Ангелов ; born March 16, 1921 in Kirkovo, † April 29, 1984 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian painter of Classical Realism and professor . He created portraits , nudes and landscapes.

Life

Angel Metodiew was born in Kirkowo, a district of Veliki Preslav . He studied with Boris Mitov at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia and graduated summa cum laude . He then became the assistant of Rector Panaiot Panaiotow. He later worked with Nenko Balkansky and Ilya Petrow. Angel Metodiev's activity at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia lasted from 1951 to 1970.

Works

Angel Metodiew organized several exhibitions of his own work. He took part in almost all Bulgarian national exhibitions.

He made wood carvings for the last ten years of his life. Many of these works of art were left unfinished because of his sudden death.

Before his death in 1984, he dreamed of a house-museum where all of his work could be exhibited together. To achieve this, his second wife Helia Metodieva donated 70 of his paintings and carvings to the “Bulgaria in the Thirteenth Century” foundation in the town of Veliky Preslav , where they were exhibited. For this donation Metodieva was awarded the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius , 1st degree. Most of Angel Metodiev's paintings are now in Veliky Preslav's art gallery. There are also paintings in the national museums in Varna , Shumen and Blagoevgrad , Bulgaria.
