Thomas Olbricht

Thomas Olbricht (* 1948 in Wernesgrün ) is a German patron of the arts , chemist, doctor and former chairman of the supervisory board of Wella AG. He is one of the heirs to the family business.

Career

Olbricht studied chemistry in Marburg and Bochum and received his doctorate in natural sciences in 1974. Olbricht then studied medicine at the University of Essen and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD.

In 1989 he was appointed private lecturer for internal medicine and endocrinology in Essen and in 1994 professor for internal medicine. In the same year he founded an endocrinology practice.

From 1992 Olbricht was a member of the Supervisory Board of Wella AG, 2002/2003 as its chairman. When Wella AG was sold to Procter & Gamble , Olbricht received 165 million euros for his shares.

Since 1986, Olbricht has been collecting visual arts with a focus on contemporary art. In 2010 the me Collectors Room Berlin opened on Auguststrasse in Berlin , in which he is showing his Olbricht Collection and excerpts from other international private art collections. In addition, the me Collectors Room Berlin is home upstairs a Wunderkammer , art, antiques, curiosities, furniture, anatomical models and stuffed animals shows since the Renaissance.

Thomas Olbricht's fortune is stated by Manager Magazin at around 850 million euros and is ranked 138th in the list of the 500 richest Germans (as of 2013).
