Bemposta is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Penamacor . It has 120 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
history
In the course of the Reconquista , the Moorish place was settled and fortified in the 12th century. In 1258 Bemposta was officially mentioned for the first time, as a village in the district of Penamacor. From 1277 to 1287 the place was under the Knights Templar , who built the castle. In 1510 King Manuel I granted the town town rights ( Foral ) and had the stake erected as a sign of administrative sovereignty. The place became an independent circle.
In connection with the restoration war , the fortification of the place was renewed and expanded in the 17th century. In 1836 the Bemposta district was dissolved and Monsanto was incorporated . Since 1848 the parish has belonged to Penamacor County.

Among its various architectural monuments, including fountains, houses and sacred buildings , are a Roman bridge, the baroque church Igreja Paroquial de Bemposta (also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Silva ), built from 1600 and showing the gilded wooden altarpiece ( Talha dourada ), and the to name the entire historic town center.
Every year on August 15th, the local festival takes place with a procession in honor of the local patroness Nossa Senhora da Silva .
