history

The place was probably settled during the Reconquista . In 1321 Salvador was already a separate community with a church. French troops passing through in the course of the Napoleonic invasions at the beginning of the 19th century spread horror in the place, but no major damage was reported. With the dissolution of Monsanto County in 1848, Salvador came to Penamacor County.

Salvador received nationwide coverage in 2009 when the 44-year-old shepherd Rui Vaz Gaudêncio won over one million euros in the second prize in the EuroMillionen lottery ( Portuguese : Euromilhões ).

Culture and sights

The late Baroque parish church Igreja Paroquial de Salvador (also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira ) should be mentioned among the monuments of the community, which include a number of fountains, sacred buildings and historical public buildings .

economy

In and around the village, various Turismo rural houses are geared towards nature-based tourism. Organic olive oil is produced in an old oil press ( lagar ). There is also a traditional bakery in town. Traditional crafts are made, including handcrafted adufes .
