Thomas Pfiffner

Thomas Pfiffner (* 1965 in Basel) is a Swiss cultural manager.

Life

1983 to 1990 Thomas Pfiffner pursued his piano studies in Basel and Vienna. During his music studies he already took on cultural management tasks, among others at the Serenata Basel (today Basel Chamber Orchestra) and the Klangforum Wien . From 1991 to 1999 he was program director of the Pan Classics CD label , from 1992 to 1996 he was also managing director of the Basler Musik Forum (program management: Heinz Holliger, Rudolf Kelterborn and Jürg Wyttenbach) and recording manager of the Basler Sinfonie-Orchester . From 1996 to 2005, Thomas Pfiffner, together with chief conductor Howard Griffiths, shaped the fortunes of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra as managing director . He then worked as director and artistic director at the Musikkollegium Winterthur . Since 2014 he has been managing director of the Orpheum Foundation for the Promotion of Young Soloists .

In addition to his full-time duties, Thomas Pfiffner was a founding member of the “European Mozart Ways” association in Salzburg, president of the Pocket Opera Company and the cultural management forum. He is also the organizer of the Bern Master Cycle and - together with the pianist Oliver Schnyder - of the “Piano District” series. He is in charge of the “Audi Classical Experience” series for the automotive import company AMAG. Since 1997 he has also been a member of the Foundation Board of the SUISA Foundation (Vice-President since 2009). As a speaker, he was a regular guest at the Zurich University of the Arts and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences .
