Thomas Schaible

Thomas Schaible (born August 1, 1960 in Schönbronn ) is a German doctor for pediatric and adolescent medicine and neonatology and a university professor.

Life

Thomas Schaible studied medicine at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen from 1979 to 1986 and received his doctorate there in 1989 with an "Analysis of Special Heart Diagnostics in the First Year of Life in Tübingen 1972-83". After obtaining his license to practice medicine in 1986, he completed his specialist training at the children's clinic at Ulm University by 1991 . He then worked as a pediatrician at the Böblingen District Hospital , then as a continuing education assistant at the Medical University of Lübeck . In 1997 he was appointed senior physician at the children's clinic at the University Hospital Mannheim . In 2013 he completed his habilitation at the Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg with the subject “Standardization of diagnostics and therapy for congenital diaphragmatic hernia ” and received the Venia Legendi . In 2014 he became director of the Clinic for Neonatology at the University Hospital Mannheim .

Focus of work

Thomas Schaible is a licensed specialist in pediatric and adolescent medicine and has additional training in neonatology and pediatric intensive care medicine . In these areas he also has the license to train. He is also a trainer for ventilation and intensive care management.

His clinical focuses include neonatology, the treatment of pulmonary failure in childhood with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and the care of congenital diaphragmatic hernias .

Research priorities

His scientific interest lies primarily in clinical studies with premature infants , the further development of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and the treatment and long-term prognosis of congenital diaphragmatic hernias. In this research area he participates in the CDH Euroconsortium.

Thomas Schaible is a reviewer for numerous specialist journals, including Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, European Respiratory Journal, Klinische Pädiatrie, Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Archives Disease of Childhood, Pediatric Critical Care and the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.
