Britta Rabold

Britta Rabold (born September 27, 1956 in Morbach ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist and area officer for the archaeological preservation of monuments in the Karlsruhe office .

Rabold lived in Morbach near Trier until she graduated from high school . At that time, she was particularly fond of chemistry and mathematics . In addition, she was already very interested in history and archeology , which influenced her choice of studies. Rabold went to the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz to study classical archeology , ancient history , prehistory and early history , Christian archeology and Egyptology . In 1979 she reoriented herself and moved to the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . There Rabold continued her studies with a focus on Roman provincial archeology. Her doctorate on the Roman peristyle villa in Bad Kreuznach followed in 1986.

The following year she worked for the Archaeological Preservation of Monuments of the State Office for Monument Preservation Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart. Several large Roman excavations followed in the urban area of Heidenheim . Her appointment as scientific advisor for archaeological monument preservation at the State Monuments Office in Stuttgart took place in 1990. Rabold's main tasks included planning and coordinating the construction of the State Archaeological Museum in Konstanz and the Central Fund Archive in Rastatt . At the beginning of 1995 she started working as an area conservator at the branch office in Karlsruhe. Her area of ​​responsibility initially included the Enzkreis , the districts of Calw , Rastatt , Freudenstadt and the urban district of Pforzheim . In 1998 Rabold also worked for the Baden-Baden district . In addition, she was now also responsible for the archaeological care of Ladenburg . During this time important excavations took place in Walldorf , Oberderdingen-Flehingen , Enzberg , Calw , Stammheim , Ettlingen and Horb-Altheim. From 1995 she represented the State Monuments Office in the “ German Limes Road ” project. In 1996 she took over the management of the “Archeology in Baden” sponsorship group.

On December 1, 1999, she was appointed head of Section 22 (today Section 84.2) of Archaeological Monument Preservation in the Karlsruhe office. Further extensive excavation lines followed, for example between 2003 and 2007 in the area of ​​the vicus of Kastell Schloßau .

Rabold is a member of the Association of State Archaeologists .
