Thomas Schmidt (classical philologist)

Thomas S. Schmidt (* 1966 ) is a Swiss classical philologist .

Life

He studied in Freiburg im Üechtland and Oxford and worked at the Universities of Louvain-la-Neuve (1997–1998), Leuven (1998–2002) and Laval (Québec) (2002–2009). He has been Professor of Classical Philology and an expert on Greek language and literature since 2009.

His main research interests are the work of Plutarch , the literature of the Second Sophistics , papyrology and Greek patristics .

He is a member of the Swiss Matura Commission and President of the Swiss Matura Examination Jury at the Gambach College in Friborg.
