Paolo Fedeli

Paolo Fedeli (* 1939 ) is an Italian classical philologist and professor of Latin literature at the University of Bari .

Life

Fedeli studied Classical Philology in Bari . In 1968 he became Associate Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Friborg (Switzerland). In 1972 he was made a full professor and in 1974 left the university. In 1976 he returned to the University of Bari as a full professor.

Fedeli was president of the Consulta Universitaria di Studi Latini and the Giunta esecutiva del Bimillenario di Orazio. Paolo Fedeli is Doctor honoris causa from the Universities of Lisbon and Mar del Plata. His commentaries and editorships on Properz and Horace , Catullus and Ovid are authoritative for Classical Philology . Fedeli's oeuvre also includes critical editions of Marcus Tullius Cicero's De officiis , De amicitia and the Phillipische Reden. He is the chief editor of the quarterly Aufidius and co-editor of the Giornale Italiano di Filologia .

Fedeli edited five volumes in the Spazio letterario di Roma antica series . His books and articles have been published in Italy, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Spain, the USA and Switzerland. Fedeli is fluent in Latin .

He was a member of

• Giunta del Centro di Studi Ciceroniani Rome,
• the Accademia Properziana del Subasio di Assisi,
• the Accademia Ovidiana in Sulmona and
• the Petronian Society in Gainesville, Florida.

In 1995, Fedeli won first prize at the Certamen Capitolinum of the Commune of Rome.
