Thomas Stöhr (born August 7, 1966 in Bad Vilbel ) is a Hessian local politician ( CDU ). Since June 17, 2004 he has been the mayor of Bad Vilbel.

education and profession

Thomas Stöhr studied after graduating from high school at the Augustinian school Friedberg Finance at the Technical College for Administration Rotenburg an der Fulda . The degree was followed by a law degree at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he was later awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. After the first state examination in law, he worked as a trainee lawyer at the Hanau Regional Court , the City of Bad Vilbel , an international law firm and Commerzbank .

After passing the second state examination, he worked in business, in court and in administration. On January 1, 2000, he took up the post of First City Council of Bad Vilbel. Since June 17, 2004 he has been the mayor of Bad Vilbel. On February 21, 2010 he was confirmed in office with 57.8% of the votes. On March 6, 2016, he was re-elected, this time with 65.7% of the vote.

Political career

Stöhr joined the CDU in 1985. Before that he was active in the Junge Union . In 1989 he was elected to the city council of Karben and belonged to it for around 10 years, most recently as chairman of the CDU parliamentary group . The city council of the neighboring city of Bad Vilbel elected him in December 1999 to the full-time First City Councilor of Bad Vilbel. Thomas Stöhr took up this position on January 1, 2000 and was responsible for the areas of finance, head office, human resources and real estate. On September 28, 2003, Thomas Stöhr was elected mayor of the city of Bad Vilbel with 71.9% in a direct election and thus succeeded the long-time mayor Günther Biwer.

An earth dump in the Gronau district has been filled with more than five times the approved amount since 1999, which in January 2008 led to investigations by the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office against Stöhr, his predecessor Günther Biwer, two city employees and an entrepreneur because of the unauthorized dumping. There are different opinions about the actually filled material. The investigation against him was temporarily suspended in December 2009 in return for a monetary payment . As part of the general investigation, a search took place in the town hall, but it was not directed against Thomas Stöhr.

Other offices and functions

As mayor, Thomas Stöhr chairs the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Bad Vilbel GmbH as well as the operating committee of the Stadtwerke Bad Vilbel. He also represents the city of Bad Vilbel as chairman of the planning committee of the association chamber of the planning association for the Frankfurt / Rhine-Main conurbation .
