Thomas Traversa (born December 4, 1985 in Aubagne ) is a French windsurfer . He is the 2014 wave world champion .
biography
Traversa grew up in Aubagne near Marseille and lives there to this day. He and his brother started surfing at the age of six, before he went windsurfing for the first time two years later.
With his training partner Antony Ruenes , he first dominated the French windsurfing tour and started in a World Cup on Fuerteventura in 2002 for the first time , where he was 13th. He established himself in the top 10 of freestyle and was able to place himself on the podium in 2007 . After a complex broken foot, however, from 2008 onwards he focused more on the wave discipline.
In the 2011 season he was classified in the top ten of the wave rating for the first time, in which he has been able to place every year until today (2018). A year later he celebrated his first World Cup victory at the Cold Hawaii World Cup in front of Klitmøller . Traversa's most successful season was 2014. He won two events and finished second in three more, securing the world title. In the following years he consistently made it into the top ten and celebrated his fourth World Cup victory at the Windsurf World Cup Sylt in 2018 .
