Thomas Wark

Thomas Wark (born April 3, 1957 in Viersen ) is a German sports journalist.

Wark was born as the son of Oskar Wark , who worked as a sports journalist for ZDF. After graduating from high school in 1976 and doing community service, he studied English, American and history at the University of Mainz from 1978 to 1982 . In addition, from 1980 he worked as an intern at Antenne 2 , SWF , BBC and ZDF . In 1983 he became a freelancer at NDR , where he hosted a youth program and followed in his father's footsteps as a reporter for soccer and swimming. In 1984 he was a reporter for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. From 1985 he presented the ARD program Sport-Extra .

In 1987 he became a freelancer in the sports department of ZDF, where he has been a live reporter for swimming since 1988 and a commentator for international football matches since 1992. Since the beginning of 1993 he has been employed by ZDF. He also emerged as the presenter of the broadcasts ZDF Sportreportage and Sport-Extra .

As an ambassador, Thomas Wark supports the Respekt! No place for racism .

Awards

  • 1986: Award at the Short Film Festival in Oberhausen for the documentary Der Treueste Fan. Observations in the neo-Nazi scene
