Thomas William Lyster

Thomas William Lyster (* 1855 ; † 1922 ) was director of the Irish National Library in Dublin from 1895 until he left in 1920.

He worked in the National Library from 1878, translated Heinrich Düntzer 's Goethe's Life into English in 1883 and was the editor of a school book on poetry called Intermediate School Anthology .

Lyster was a member of the Church of Ireland and James Joyce used him as a template for the "Quaker Librarian" in his novel Ulysses .
