Thomastown

Thomastown ( Irish : Baile Mhic Andáin ) is a country town in County Kilkenny in the southeast of the Republic of Ireland .
General
Thomastown was founded in the 13th century on the River Nore and is one of the largest towns in County Kilkenny with 2,445 inhabitants according to the 2016 Census ; since 2002 the population of Thomastown has increased by more than 50%. Up until the early 1960s, the main line of business was the milling industry .
The place is 17 kilometers south of Kilkenny Town on the national road N9 from Dublin to Waterford and is connected to the InterCity route Dublin – Kilkenny – Waterford of the Iarnród Éireann . The Thomastown Ogham Stone is by the church.

Attractions
1.5 km southwest of the city is Jerpoint Abbey, a former Cistercian monastery founded in the 12th century . Also near Thomastown, on a church ruin in Kilfane, is the Cantwell Fada, a well-preserved medieval high relief .
