Thorgaut Island ( also Thorgautøya in Norway ) is the largest of the islands in the northeastern part of the Robinson Group off the coast of the East Antarctic Mac-Robertson Land . It is located 11 km northwest of Cape Daly .
This island and those in the immediate vicinity were sighted in 1931 by the crew of the Norwegian whaling ship Thorgaut and named as Thorgautøyane . In accordance with the recommendations of the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA), the name Robinson, already assigned by the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson , remained for the entire archipelago, while the island described here received its current name.
