Thorsten Benter (born February 17, 1962 in Schleswig ) is a German chemist. Since 2001 he has been professor of physical chemistry at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

biography

After high school at the Staatliche Domschule Schleswig , he began studying chemistry at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and graduated in 1987 with the main diploma examination. It was in 1993 with his thesis on " REMPI mass spectrometric studies on the product formation in the reactions of NO 3 radicals with unsaturated hydrocarbons" doctorate . From 1997 to 2001 he was Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine and then accepted an appointment at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.

research

His main research interests are the methodical development of ionization processes, especially at atmospheric pressure, as well as the development of diagnostic MS processes. He was instrumental in the development of laser ionization at atmospheric pressure (APLI).
