Thorsten Hutter

Thorsten Hutter (born July 23, 1960 in Hamburg ) is a German diplomat . He was ambassador to Zimbabwe from August 2016 to August 2020 .

Life

Thorsten Hutter completed an apprenticeship as a foreign trade merchant from 1978 to 1980 and then began studying political science and American studies . From 1987 to 1988 he took part in the Congressional Fellowship Program in Washington, DC , and then did a PhD in political science.

Hutter is widowed and has four children.

career

Thorsten Hutter joined the Foreign Service in 1990, worked in the North American Department of the Foreign Office from 1991 to 1992 and then went to the Embassy in Washington until 1995. It was used at the embassy in Seoul from 1995 to 1997 .

In 1997, Hutter came to the Department for Russia , Ukraine , Belarus and Moldova in the Foreign Office, then worked at the Embassy in Nairobi from 2000 to 2003 before becoming Deputy Head of the Iraqi Special Staff at the Foreign Office in 2003 . From 2004 he was head of the Iraq work unit at the Federal Foreign Office. In 2006, Hutter went to the embassy in Moscow as deputy head of the political department . In 2010 he returned to the Foreign Office and became head of the Central Europe Department. After serving as a permanent representative at the Embassy in Jakarta , Indonesia , Hutter was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Harare , Zimbabwe in August 2016 , where he succeeded Ulrich Klöckner .
