Thorsten Knauer

Thorsten Knauer (* 1980 in Lüdenscheid ) is a German economist and professor of business administration . He holds the chair for controlling at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Career

Thorsten Knauer completed an apprenticeship as a banker at Deutsche Bank AG in Wuppertal from 2000 to 2002 . He then studied business administration at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster with a stay abroad at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and graduated in 2007 with a degree in business administration . He received his doctorate in 2010 as a research assistant at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster with Wolfgang Berens. In 2013 he completed his habilitation there. During this time, from 2012 to 2013 he spent a research stay at the Ivey Business School (London, Canada) .

From 2013 to 2016 he held a chair for controlling at the University of Bayreuth . In 2015 Thorsten Knauer accepted a position at the Ruhr University Bochum, where he has held the Chair of Controlling since 2016. Since 2019 he has also been the executive scientific director of the Institute for Corporate Management (ifu) at the Ruhr University Bochum.

His main research interests are in the areas of performance management , corporate planning , corporate transactions and value-based controlling . He is the author of numerous scientific and practice-oriented publications.

Together with Friedrich Sommer and Arnt Wöhrmann, Thorsten Knauer is the initiator of EXRIMA (Experimental Research in Management Accounting).

He is also the founder of the Accounting & Controlling Academy, which focuses on in-service training.
