Thure Ahlqvist

Thure Ahlqvist (born April 20, 1907 in Borås , † March 20, 1983 ibid) was a Swedish boxer . He won a silver medal in lightweight at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles .

Career

Thure Ahlqvist started boxing as a teenager in his hometown Borås. He fought in the normal display (left arm) and belonged to the boxing club IK Ymer Borås . In 1927 he took part in the Swedish championship of amateur boxers for the first time. At this championship he lost in the semifinals against John Pihl from Djurgårdens IF and finished 3rd. By 1935 he started six more times in the Swedish championships. However, he did not manage to become Swedish champion even once. In 1929, 1934 and 1935 he reached the final battle, which he lost.

In 1932 he started for Sweden at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In the lightweight he defeated Gaston Mayor from France and Nathan Bor from the United States. So he was in the final battle against Lawrence Stevens from South Africa. He lost this fight on points and won the silver medal. That was the greatest success of his boxer career. He was not at the start at other international championships.

In total, Thure Ahlqvist played 169 fights in his career as an amateur boxer, of which he won 141. He lost 28 fights.

On April 17, 1936, he played his only professional fight that he lost.
