Thyridanthrax perspicillaris is a fly from the family of Wollschweber (Bombyliidae).

features

The flies reach a body length of 8.5 to 13 millimeters. The head, a large part of the forehead and the back of the head are colored black-gray and covered with matt white scale hair. The face has a yellow rim. The antennae have a reddish colored first link, their third is long, conical and colored black. The thorax is black, the scutellum is colored red-brown. The head is framed by a striking golden-yellow frill made of hair. The mesonotum and the mesopleure are yellow on top. The black colored legs ( femora ) are scaled white, the yellow scaled rails ( tibia ) are yellow at the base and black at the apical part. The tarsi are black. The abdomen is red-brown, the first tergite is black and the second to fourth bears black spots in the middle. On the first and second tergite in front, on the third in the rear corners and on the fourth the animals are long, hairy white on the side.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed from southern Europe to Asia Minor. They are found in sandy habitats in summer.
