Thysanoplusia daubei is a butterfly ( moth ) from the owl butterfly family(Noctuidae).
features

The wingspan of the moth is 27 to 31 millimeters. On the front wings prevail dark gray-brown to reddish brown before staining. The lower midfield is darkened. A characteristic silver-white symbol stands out, for example in the form of the letter gamma from the Greek alphabet. This gamma symbol is stretched and often filled with pink. The outer transverse line is lightly bordered on both sides, the wavy line is strongly jagged. The hind wings are pale brownish, somewhat darkened at the edge. The thorax is furry and has a few tufts of hair, the proboscis is well developed.
Similar species
The ash gray humpback owl ( Trichoplusia ni ) differs in its longer wings and a much smaller and often interrupted gamma sign.
distribution and habitat
Thysanoplusia daubei occurs in the Mediterranean region , in the southern part of Asia and in the north and east of Africa. In Switzerland , butterflies have sometimes been reported as immigrants. The main habitat of the species are bushy, light forest areas.
Way of life
The moths of Thysanoplusia daubei develop two generations per year in the Mediterranean area, in Africa they fly in several generations throughout the year. They like to suckle flowers during the day. At night they also visit artificial light sources . The caterpillars prefer to feed on the leaves of various mint family (Lamiaceae) and sunflower species (Asteraceae).
