Tianlian 1A ( Chinese  天 鏈 一號  /  天 链 一号 , Tianlian I-01 , Tian Lian 1A , TL-1A or CTDRS-1A , where Tian Lian stands for space connection ) is the first data transmission satellite in the People's Republic of China .

Tianlian 1A was transported into geostationary orbit on April 25, 2008 from the Xichang Cosmodrome . The launch took place with the first rocket of the Langer Marsch 3C type . The satellite was successfully placed in the transition orbit to geostationary orbit after about 25 minutes . It reached its geostationary position 77 degrees East on May 1st.

The on the back in 2007 in the lunar probe Chang'e-1 used satellite bus DFH-3A based missiles should as a relay station, the communication link between the ground station and the manned spacecraft Shenzhou 7 improve, launched in September, 2008. The previous network of ground stations was only able to ensure communication with Shenzhou on around twelve percent of the flight path. Tianlian 1A should cover over 50 percent of the flight path.

Tianlian 1A was developed by the Chinese Academy of Space Technology and has transponders in the Ka and S band .

The network was completed with the relay satellites Tianlian 1B and 1C, which were launched on July 11, 2011 and July 25, 2012, respectively, and it was used for the first time on the Shenzhou 10 mission from June 13 to 25, 2013. In 2016, two years after the end of the planned service life, the still functional Tianlian 1A was initially supplemented by Tianlian 1D and then replaced.
