Tibor Tolnay

Tibor Tolnay (born July 6, 1932 in Oradea , Ger. Great Oradea ; † October 28, 2009 ibid) was a painter and graphic artist of the twentieth century. He belonged to the ethnic group of the Magyars in Romania .

life and work

Between 1947 and 1949 he was a pupil of the painter Gabor Miklóssy and from 1952 to 1962 he worked as a decorator in the Great Aradin alcohol factory. From 1962 to 1968 he worked as a set designer for the Hungarian drama group Szigligeti - named after the Hungarian playwright Ede Szigligeti - at the Oradea State Theater. Tolnay began exhibiting in 1970. First in Transylvania , mostly in Oradea. Then in Hungary, Germany and Sweden . A study trip to Paris followed . Numerous depictions of the city were created using various techniques, including oil paintings, colored pen drawings and watercolors. which depict the alleys, buildings and squares mysteriously and romantically. In 1975 there was an exhibition in Bulgaria and 1985 in France . Tolnay mainly painted in oils. His preferred subjects included the houses and streets of Großwardein but also landscape motifs. Stylistically, he is in the tradition of great Great Aradin painters such as Alfred Macalik , Ernö Tibor and Roman Paul Mottl .

Tolnay's works are in numerous European, American, Canadian, Australian, and Israeli private collections.
